Science is a means by which unhappiness is overcome and satisfaction, happiness, nirvana and parinirvana attained. How is science a means by which unhappiness is overcome? There are two forms of knowledge which are helpful and essential in overcoming unhappiness and attaining satisfaction, happiness, nirvana and parinirvana, knowledge of the universe and knowledge of the self. To understand one's self fully one must grow in knowledge of the universe. And to understand the universe one must grow in knowledge of the self. For in truth the universe and the self are one and dwell in oneness. The knowledge of science is useful in overcoming unhappiness only insofar as it helps one understand the universe and the self. And the knowledge of science is useful in overcoming unhappiness only insofar as it helps one understand unhappiness, satisfaction, happiness, nirvana and parinirvana. The knowledge of science is helpful in overcoming unhappiness if one applies the knowledge of science to understand the universe and the self as a whole. In one's investigation of what the universe and the self is, one finds that science opens doors to many different fields of knowledge. The knowledge of all the different branches of science apply to the universe and the self, and help one to understand what the universe and the self is. Each branch of science has a different knowledge to give. Therefore, one benefits through investigating all branches of science. That is to say, it helps one overcome unhappiness and attain satisfaction, happiness, nirvana and parinirvana through investigating the knowledge of all branches of science. |
